Team

Jay Gemmill started the Ontario Flute Centre in 1991. He began by repairing and selling flutes and accessories but soon focused solely on repair work. Jay has been a band instrument repair technician since 1979. He studied at the Allied Supply Inc. School for Band Instrument Repair in Wisconsin.

He specializes in flute and piccolo repair and restorations and is certified to work with professional oboes, clarinets, saxophones, and bassoons. Jay is also Straubinger and Muramatsu Lotus system certified.

Jay finds great satisfaction in doing his best work all the time and enjoys refining his repair techniques. His mission is to satisfy his customers and himself by doing work he is proud of. He loves working with his hands and interacting with customers. Jay offers consistent quality repairs at reasonable prices. He has low overhead costs. Jay excels in both mechanical repairs and maintaining a high cosmetic standard for the instruments.

Jay believes the best flute is the one that suits the player best. He helps musicians find the perfect instrument for their needs.

Hyunjung (HJ) Lee completed her Bachelor of Music in flute performance in South Korea before receiving a full scholarship to join the Artist Diploma Program at the Glenn Gould School, The Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada.

During this transition, she developed an interest in flute repair and began honing her skills in the craft. While at the Glenn Gould School, HJ discovered her passion for repairing flutes alongside playing them. She found joy in knowing that her repair skills could enhance the performances of musicians.

HJ is a Straubinger Certified Technician, known for her careful attention to detail and dedication to quality. With her background as both a performer and a technician, HJ brings a unique perspective to her work, ensuring that each instrument she repairs meets the highest standards of playability and sound quality.
